Guide to Puerto Andratx - Tourist and Travel Information, Hotels
This article is a tourist information and travel guide to the resort of Puerto Andratx including information on hotels, apartments, car hire, weather, restaurants, markets, waterparks and other local attractions
The resort is found in the far Southwest of Mallorca in the municipality of Andratx and the travelling time from Palma to Puerto Andratx is approx 35 minutes. Most tourists find the scenery as you approach Andratx absolutely stunning and Puerto Andratx has retained all of its charm as an original fishing village of Mallorca.
Although Andratx had very humble beginnings, today Puerto Andratx is a very stylish and chic resort with many shops, restaurants and numerous estate agencies and art/decoration shops! Although there are only a few Hotels, you will find many private apartments and Villas for Rent. The area has attracted many wealthy German and English tourists over the years, many of which have set up home in the some of the beautiful villas in the hillside surrounding the Port.
Restaurants
You will also find many select restaurants in and around Puerto Andratx where you will find cuisine to suit all tastes from Mallorquin and Spanish to Italian, Japanese and even Greek
If you arrive early enough in the morning (very early), you will see the fishermen bringing their catch into the fish weighing station and also directly beside this you will see the fishermen lining out and repairing their nets for the following day's catch. The Marina is very large and you will see many small and large boats & yachts here. Many people use Puerto Andratx as the last stop before sailing on to mainland Spain or farther into the Mediterranean.
As well as the many stylish restaurants, cafes and bars which line the Marina you will also find some hotels. This is a beautiful resort for tourists to visit for a day or to spend a holiday and it is particularly enjoyable to have lunch or dinner in one of the restaurants or cafes admiring the views over the Port. In the evenings the area has a very cosmopolitan feel when all the restaurants are illuminated and bursting to capacity.
Car Hire is readily available and from here you can visit one of the many nearby resorts such as Peguera, Santa Ponsa, Palmanova or Magaluf. If you prefer you could take a taxi or a local bus to visit these resorts or you could also visit Palma for the day.
If you need a chemist you will find one opposite the Marina. You will also find an Eroski supermarket (supermarket chain) just at the start of the port. Here you will also find a super take-away foodshop selling freshly prepared ribs, roast chicken etc.
Many boat trips from other nearby resorts stop for a short duration at Puerto Andratx resulting in the resort becoming very busy with tourists at certain times of the day.
If you wish, you can arrange a boat trip from Puerto Andratx to various destinations such as Soller or Sa Dragonera.
The Saluet River Bed
This is the Saluet River Bed which runs into Puerto Andratx. This natural riverbed has great beauty and is also home to a large popularion of Mallards. This area is a transition between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems with a beautiful landscape and a great diversity of flor and fauna. You will notice the large population of Mallards together with a collection of French Tamarisk and a vast quantity of giant reeds also known as Spanish Cane or Wild Cane.
Andratx Village Square
The village of Andratx can be found just a few kilometres from Puerto de Andratx and this has one of the largest weekly markets held on Wednesday mornings. This is very popular with tourists visiting Puerto Andratx. You can travel to this market by car, local bus (see transport) or a short taxi trip.
The quiet village of Sant Elm is also well worth a visit and is a short distance from Puerto Andratx. You will find a very nice little beach there. From Sant Elm you have a tremendous view of Sa Dragonera, the well known uninhabited island features on many postcards and pictures of Puerto Andratx and Mallorca.
