Visit Munich and the Great Oktoberfest!

Munich: Famous for its sausages and beer with the latter having it's very own festival... Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest, or "die Wiesn" (as the locals call it) is a beer festival that lasts 16 days starting late September and running into early October.

Only beers that are brewed within the city limits of Munich and which comply with the rules may be designated for Oktoberfest - These beers have to be at a minimum of 6% alcohol!

Coupled with beer being served in Mas (1 litre glasses) and you can see why this event is popular!

But it's not just the beer... No no, the Oktoberfest is also the worlds largest fair, attracting over 6 million visitors! At the fair you can go on the fiarground rides or try some authentic German cuisine like Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), or Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes).

And when the fair is over, you still have Munich to discover! With a motto of "Munchen mag dich" which in English means "Munich Loves you" you're bound to fall in Love with Munich too!

From the museums, to the circus, to the wide range of art galleries or even one of the many famous breweries there is something for everyone.

Getting to Munich is also easy too!

Bus and coach companies like 'Eurocoach or Megabus' frequently stop at Munich. If sitting on a coach for 12 hours isn't your thing then you should think about driving.

As daunting as it may seem to drive on the 'wrong side of the road' it is actually quiet easy. Many forums and websites are available for advice and you have to remember, everyone who drives abroad had a first time!

Usually when you drive off the ferry or train you are, (a) following traffic and (b) in a contraflow so you can't get it wrong!

However if all that seems just too much, why not fly? Munich's international airport is one of the largest and most efficient in the world. Budget and national carriers fly there from all over the UK and with easy connections to the city, you'll be drinking your first beer in no time!
