Holiday To Space

With so many wonderful holiday destination dotted around the world why would you want a holiday to space?
Granted, a trip to space would be pretty amazing, however, short of discovering a new alien race, you couldn't expect to find anything much to do in space except gaze at the planets and marvel at how far from earth you were.
Short of the money though to make it to space, what if you could have an adrenaline hit at some of the world's most amazing destinations? Chances are, one of them may be in a location you were heading to anyway and this way you can partially satisfy that need for a holiday to space.
If you happen to be planning a trip to the USA, you might want to think about visiting the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Having hosted more than 1.5 million people on its walk through the sky since it's opening in March, 2007 it was the Hualapai Tribe that gave the approval for it back in 2003.
Through extensive engineering tests, it was found the red limestone rock could withstand 16,000 pounds of pressure per square inch and the high winds that are known to blow through the Grand Canyon.
Skywalk is 4,000 feet above the Colorado River and is strong enough to support about 71 million pounds; roughly the equivalent of 71 fully loaded 747 airplanes. That knowledge isn't enough though to stop you feeling as though you're going to plunge straight through. Your heart will race as you walk along the 70 feet the structure extends past the edge of the Grand Canyon wall. Being horseshoe-shaped it brings you back to the edge of the canyon, with a unique view along the way.
If the idea of being able to visit the beach each and every day regardless of the weather appeals, then the world's one and only indoor beach can be found in Japan's Ocean Dome which is about 1,200 miles south of Tokyo in Miyazaki, on Japan's southernmost Kyushu Island.
Devoid of sun burn, bugs, wind or rain, the Ocean Dome boasts the world's largest retractable roof. The beach sits inside a dome that measures 984 feet x 328 feet with heated ocean sending 13,500 tons of salt free water sweeping across 600 tons of polished marble chips that pose as the shoreline.
Complete with bogus parrots that ruffle their feathers and squawk at tourists to its own volcano that spits flames every hour on the hour. If laying on the sand isn't your thing there are other distractions such as shopping centres, gold courses and tennis courts.
Probably one of the most exhilarating would be the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas which, at 1,149 feet is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the USA. One of the newest attractions for the Stratosphere Tower is the SkyJump which is a controlled free fall on a high speed, descent wire plummeting 855ft from the 108th floor of the tower.
The Tower consists of an observation deck, a restaurant and four thrill rides. Insanity is a massive mechanical arm extending out 65ft over the edge of the tower, at a height of 900 feet. Spinning in the open air you'll be propelled up to an angle of 70 degrees, making you front the stomach dropping view of downtown Las Vegas.
Just in case you haven't had enough adrenaline or either of the above doesn't appeal to you try the X-Scream. It resembles a massive see-saw unlike anything you've ever seen. The X-Scream propels you headfirst 27 feet over the edge of the tower. Once you've been shot over the edge, you'll dangle weightlessly above Las Vegas before being pulled back and propelled forward again for more. The front seat is definitely the best stomach churning view.
The Big Shot is the last ride of the Stratosphere's Tower. You can expect to be shot 160ft into the air at 45 miles per hour up the Tower's mast to a height of 1,081 feet and down again. Before you get a chance to collect your stomach, you'll be shot back up again at a huge four G's unmatched by other thrill parks.
These locations may not satisfy your need for a holiday to space, but they're guaranteed to get your adrenaline flowing. Perhaps a view of the rides in action would encourage you to book that holiday.
When we think about travel we rarely believe it's something we can do for longer than a week or two, but what if you could work and travel non-stop?
